Abstract
The world energy development is facing the problems of resource shortage, environmental pollution and climate change. Some countries are actively carrying out energy transformation and striving to create a new pattern of sustainable energy development, which is also encouraged by Chinese government. China proposed the “Belt and Road Initiative”,which is widely praised and endorsed by many countries. The initiative will strengthen international cooperation and promote inter-regional interconnection in the field of energy and electricity.
In order to reflect the development status of the world’s energy clean development and interconnection, this book presents the world energy clean development and interconnection comprehensive index, which can make a quantitative assessment of the development level of each country, and provide a reference for further clarifying the direction and development priorities of each country, and promoting grid connectivity and clean energy development. This book focuses on in-depth research and quantitative analysis of Africa.
Africa has been the least developed region of global energy development, with per capita energy consumption at only about one-third of the world average, with only 3 per cent of the world’s installed power generation capacity and 600 million people without electricity. Strengthening energy and power interconnection, ensuring the reliability of energy supply, optimizing energy utilization structure and reducing energy consumption costs are important measures to solve the energy dilemma which is prevalent in African countries. Between 2018 and 2040,Africa’s total primary energy demand will grow by 2 percent a year, twice the growth rate of global demand. Through full interconnection,Africa could save $43 billion a year in electricity costs by 2040. Due to technological progress and resource endowments,Africa has unique development opportunities for the use of clean energy sources such as renewable energy and natural gas.
In order to better understand the state of clean development and connectivity in African countries, this book evaluates 54 contries in Africa based on the world comprehensive index of energy clean development and connectivity. The national characteristics, development path, advantages and short board are analyzed to provide valuable references for Africa’s clean energy development and connectivity. The book further analyzes and evaluates the power investment environment of major African countries, and provides references for the rational promotion of investment and risk avoidance in Africa.
